Based on some preliminary discussions I’ve started to have with News Director Kirr and Encyclopedia Manager DarkJedi as well as movement afoot in the Council, I think it’s safe to say that some big and MAJOR changes are on the way for NJOE. The most major since the site was created, probably. What you will see in the long run is a stronger vision for the entire site as well as a better focus on how we deliver news and a resurgence of the original Encyclopedia movement. However, things are pretty rough right now, so I don’t want to go into a lot of details yet. I don’t do this to be a tease (like I normally do, of course), but because with things in the rough stage right now, this is the perfect time to implement and consider new suggesitons and ideas from our visitors on how to improve the site.
So my questions are along the lines of… what do you value on the site - what’s the most important part? What are ways that we’re delivering content that aren’t working or could be improved, or what we don’t have that could be implemented?
The Encyclopedia, over the years, has hit a lot of struggles, but we think we’ve finally got the right movement forward to kick this into gear. Given that, one of the things DJ and I have been talking about is how we make the NJOE Encyclopedia unique - why should people come visit our content versus going to other websites that have the same content? What would make us truly unique to bring people in? What can’t you get at other sites that we might be able to offer/create in terms of encyclopedic-content?
This impromptu survey is specifically designed to improve the main site - njoe.com - but comments for the forums are welcome as well. If you’ve got comments/suggestions, please add them to this forum thread!

A hero corrupted by the power he relies upon to defeat the enemies of his people, driven by the deaths of the ones he loves family, he will fall even further so long as his descent means no one else will have to suffer. Sound a little like Anakin Skywalker? There are a number of similarities between him and Aenarion, elf warrior of the Warhammer fantasy fiction line.

Tatooine is probably one of the most iconic locations in all of Star Wars. Just reading the name likely reminds people of the opening of A New Hope, with its two setting suns. It’s a location full of turning points for the Skywalker family – where Anakin stopped being a slave and Luke began his path towards his destiny. Perhaps it will serve the same purpose for Cade Skywalker as well.

This week my sons and I will give you a look at Death Star Battles, another DK Readers level 3 book – meant for children who are reading alone. As mentioned last time, this book was a much bigger hit with my sons than Join the Rebels had been, and after the break I’ll give you my best analysis as to why that was.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…

I started reading these books. The Star Wars Expanded Universe has gone through numerous upheavals since the its inception in 1978. None of these were more seemingly important at the time while becoming nearly irrelevant years later than the 20th Star Wars Anniversary spectacular event, Shadows of the Empire. This Multimedia Event, designed as a one-stop bridge from the closing sequence of Empire Strikes Back to the opening scenes of Return of the Jedi, introduced us to a crime organization more extensive and more glamorous than Jabba’s, Black Sun, and its memorable leader Prince Xizor in Steve Perry’s novel. Yet all in all it has fallen out of Star Wars discussion. Does Shadows deserve this fate?

Role-play in the Star Wars Universe can take on many forms, not just traditional role-playing games, there’s also immersive character role-play on dedicated websites, to playing with action figures, and even dressing up in themed costumes. This column will be devoted to all things role-play, from highlighting upcoming products, reviewing role-playing books, or introducing readers to websites that might be of interest to others within the community.
