A Galaxy Not So Far Away vol 25 – Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty novelization

mgs21Metal Gear Solid 2 was a huge game in terms of sales – one of the first really big hits on the PS2 – and yet it was also controversial at the time. I played a lot of console games at the time, and completed and enjoyed MGS2, though I feel it was not without its problems. Still, when given the opportunity to review the novelization of the game by Raymond Benson I was looking forward to revisiting the story and see how it held up and what if any changes would be made. What follows will be a somewhat more spoiler filled review than I usually do in this column, so if that’s of interest click on the link to read more.

Spoiler-free Review of Darth Bane: Dynasty of Evil

My first spoiler-free review of the (hopefully still)250px-dynasty_of_evil ongoing Darth Bane: A Novel of the Old Republic series is here! For those of you like me who hear “spoiler” and run as far in the other direction as possible, you can finally find out if Drew Karpyshyn’s Dynasty of Evil- his third Star Wars novel and 5th Sith-related project- is any good.

Darth Bane, Dark Lord of the Sith, is growing impatient as he awaits his apprentice, Darth Zannah, and her attempt to fulfill the Rule of Two. Zannah herself is growing equally restless, a restlessness that is matched only by her certainty that she must find an apprentice before assuming Bane’s mantle herself. In the midst of this silent struggle, new players emerge: an old enemy, an old friend, and the two beings with the potential to become the next Sith Lords.

Filling In The Blanks: Vergere in the Legacy Era

Crazy title right?  Vergere died well over 100 years before the Legacyvergere comics started.  We shouldn’t even have to discuss her anymore, but we will.  Her choices and actions are felt in an era that she has no control over.  In this installment of Filling in the Blanks I’m going to address how Vergere’s actions are guiding a lot of the things going on in the Legacy comics.

Review - Star Wars Tales volume 1 TPB

tales1Star Wars Tales was a comics series from Dark Horse that ran from around the time of the release of The Phantom Menace until Revenge of the Sith. These 24 issues presented lots of short stories featuring characters both known and unknown, written and illustrated by faces both familiar and unfamiliar. My plan is to review at least the first three trade paperback volumes reprinting these issues – and in the case of today’s review, that means issues 1-4 of the series. Click on the link to get my thoughts.

A Jedi Like My Father Before Me vol 4 – The Clone Wars Visual Guide: Ultimate Battles

visual

Slight change of plans for posted reviews and columns this week. corax is having computer trouble, so we’ll get out the NJOE review of Legacy #42 as soon as possible - and the column he was hoping to post tomorrow. Meanwhile, please enjoy this review today, and come back tomorrow for a review of Star Wars Tales volume 1.

I’ve talked about my love of art books before, with some reviews of the Visual Guide to Lego Star Wars as well as some Terminator Salvation art books I reviewed. Ultimate Battles was just what I was hoping to see in a visual guide to this TV series – covering in detail the second half of season 1 (and even previewing season 2’s first couple of episodes) over the course of it’s 128 oversized pages. But it’s not all about me, I’ll also talk about my son’s thoughts on this book too – after the break.
