Nope, that’s not how old I was when The Empire Strikes Back came out in theaters, that is the amount of times I saw the movie in theaters during its original release, 30 years ago. I’ve since seen it many more times, via DVD, VHS, and even in the theaters again during the release of the Special Edition. And while I’ve seen some wonderful stories celebrating the 30th anniversary of the release of the greatest Star Wars movie (especially this one about how it introduced a generation to Tragedy) – I think perhaps some younger fans don’t understand why it is that a kid might want to see a movie that many times in the theaters.

Like New Avengers / Transformers, I haven’t heard a lot of good things about Secret Invasion. Heck, I wasn’t even impressed with the tie-ins that Nova and the Guardians of the Galaxy had with this event (though they kept mostly to themselves and were harmless enough – they also didn’t make me want to seek out the “main” series and see what it was all about)… and yet, there was something about this story that called to me. Perhaps it was seeing Iron Man, Captain America and Thor on the cover of the TPB (and knowing these characters hadn’t been working together since the Civil War story had occurred). Perhaps it was the cosmic nature of the story – alien shapeshifters are among us, and are ready to launch their final offensive and take over the Earth. And maybe it’s because I was looking for a fairly straightforward story, another big ticket “event” where there’s lots of action – but Secret Invasion worked very well for me.

Today I’m reviewing the first of the special edition novels and prefacing this with an explanation. Unlike the regular novels in the Jedi Apprentice/Jedi Quest series, special editions are multi-generational. While they jump from one master-padawan generation to another, there is continuity in theme and characters. Because of the multi-generational approach they’re a little hard to place in chronology, but I chose to review Deceptions at this point because it deals with the ramifications of the four book story arc I just finished reviewing. So on to the review.

Still stranded on the obscure planet Lanteeb, Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi are forced to take refuge in a town whose villagers are struggling to even survive. At the same time, they still are faced with the daunting task of finding a way to destroy Lok Durd’s devastating bioweapon. Back in 2007, Star Wars novel fans were disappointed to learn that a then-forthcoming book featuring Darth Plagueis, the master of Darth Sidious, had been cancelled.
Now, in 2010, that appears to no longer be the case. A listing for the book has cropped up on our book supplier’s database, giving the James Luceno-penned novel a February 28th, 2012 release date.
Does this mean that the book will definitely happen? No. But it is an entirely new listing that we can confirm first appeared today, that comes from a well-trusted source which is the same one that first informed us of Sean Williams’ Old Republic novel, as well as his Force Unleashed sequel.
Which is to say that we’re confident enough in our source to say that we beleive this listing means that the book’s release is a very real possibility.
If you want to discuss the potential implications of this listing, or just cautiously jump for joy, you can do that in our forums by clicking the link below.
UPDATE:
Confirmed by Sue Rostoni on the Official Star Wars forums:
Yes, apparently a database has leaked this upcoming hardcover that will follow Palpatine’s rise to power and his Master, Plagueis. “Not Yet Published” should have read: “Not Yet Announced.”
However, this is not the IC#2 replacement book, but something that we’ve been working toward for some time now. No, I don’t have the manuscript yet.
Sometimes a whole bunch of news comes out during the course of a given week that articles just don’t last long enough on our front page. Or perhaps it’s just that the piece of news wasn’t enough to warrant a front page story, but is still deserving of being recognized as newsworthy. In Case You Missed It is meant to be our catch-all for those things – a way for us to summarize the past week’s worth of news.

Let me start off with the really bad news.
Take your pick: I am horribly irresponsible with my material wealth. I have bad luck. Actually I think it’s a mix between the two of these.
In other words, any photos I shot or videos from Friday (basically me telling you guys that I missed certain things or other things that were also on Twitter) are probably gone forever. My camcorder is probably gone forever. My wallet may be gone forever.
Thankfully, a lot of the footage you’re waiting on and the vast majority of the photos are on Mizz’s camera. That’s why you’re waiting- she hasn’t had a chance to start working on it yet.
If you don’t want to wait for the footage from the panel, though, here’s some photos and audio that I did manage to grab before losing my camcorder of the The Clone Wars panel “Inside the Force”. Read on after the break! (Read More…)

From John Jackson Miller’s blog and the official Star Wars site, we now have a better look at the Knight Errant cover, and the official blurb:
A thousand years before Luke Skywalker, a generation before Darth Bane, in a galaxy far, far away…
The Republic is in crisis, torn by plague and conflict. The Sith roam unchecked, vying with one another to dominate the galaxy. But one lone Jedi, Kerra Holt, is determined to take down the Dark Lords — one act of sabotage at a time. Her enemies are strange and many: Lord Daiman, who imagines himself the creator of the universe; Lord Odion, who intends to be its destroyer; the curious siblings Quillan and Dromika; the enigmatic Arkadia. So many warring Sith weaving a patchwork of brutality — with only Kerra Holt to defend the innocents caught underfoot. Sensing a sinister pattern in the chaos, Kerra embarks on a journey that will take her to many worlds and into fierce battles against even fiercer enemies. With one against so many, her only chance of success lies with forging alliances among those who serve her enemies — including a mysterious Sith spy and a clever mercenary general. But will they be her adversaries or her salvation?
They’ve also provided the name of the cover artist: John Van Fleet, whose other covers include The New Essential Chronology, Darth Bane: Rule of Two, Star Wars: Allegiance, and Star Wars: Millennium Falcon.
