Review of Star Wars Legacy #38

Wednesday saw the release of the newest issue of Legacy!!  Find out what X-Wingurly and I thought of the newest problems facing the crew of the Mynock after the break…

Corax- First off I want to say that this issue was great.

X-Wingurly- It was another solid issue although I did find myself critiquing the artwork, notably character expressions. I am no expert by any means but something felt off in some of the panels. But in this issue, we as the readers’ saw the multiple storylines play out in one issue. So much was happening.

Corax- It was jam packed with different storylines. One of my favorite is the addition of the three assassins mainly because I see them as the bizarro versions of Cade and Co. They add an interesting dynamic to the villains that we have seen so far.

X-Wingurly- Of the three my favorite are the Anzati assassins. Which is surprising since they come across as your typical, everyday killers at first. They refer to their prey’s life force as “soup” and they are hungry for Cade. There is something deliciously creepy and disturbing about the couple that makes you want to keep reading about them; especially the female Nakia. And for all the men out there, she’s hot too.lol

Corax-I also loved seeing more of the Imperial Mission, I find it kind of funny that they’re funded by the Sith but do the job with helping the people of the galaxy. A job that the Jedi really should be doing.

X-Wingurly- You said it. I wonder if Han ever thought it would get this big. lol But I digrees. We get a little back story on Blue which I didn’t see coming. It appears she used to actually be part of the Imperial Mission as a child; which is ironic given that she is now running a scam on the Mission for parts for the Mynock.

Corax-I got the feeling while reading the issue that Jariah and Deliah want to move beyond the next con they could end up doing, almost like they anticipate bigger and better things for themselves.  Although Jariah’s new persona of the Jedi Prince was hilarious :)

X-Wingurly- What made this issue likable for me was the humor. We touched upon it last issue as well; especially the situations Jariah found himself in. Between trying to nail a married Twi’lek and his outrageous flirting with Morrigan Corde, Jariah had some of the best scenes.

Corax- Is it wrong to want to see Jariah and Morrigan together?  Maybe Jariah could be Cade’s new daddy and set him straight :p

X-Wingurly- Lol not wrong no. This is Star Wars. Land of the strange and incestuous…

Corax- I see you are referring to the opening bar scene with Cade and Gunner Yage?

X-Wingurly- Seeing Cade hit on Gunner gave me the willies. More so than the Luke and Leia kiss (as weird as that sounds) because at this point, Cade is still half slime ball so there is no telling how far he would go if Gunner would let him. But Gunner is smart so instead of doing anything the readers would have vomited too, she slips him a drug and basically makes Cade her prisoner.

Corax- Gunner’s conversation with Morrigan was awesome as well, especially her last comment about how Corde sounds just like her mother.

X-Wingurly- I loved that part. We find Corde trying to impart advice to Gunner with her making the ironic statement, “Sounds just like my mother.” The Corde/Nyna character just gets more damn interesting with each issue. I had to laugh at this. John and Jan have proven that they play on family ignorance just as well as the classic OT movies.

Corax- What is even more interesting is Cade’s interaction with Gunner when he is her prisoner.

X-Wingurly- Cade still has not battled his demons as he tries to force choke Gunner to escape. Probably would have finished her off had the three assassins not caught up to them. The only thing that slowed the assassins down is the approach of a sandstorm in which Gunner and Cade put aside their differences for the time being. Which brings us to the end of this issue with Veed’s meeting with Darth Wyrrlock.

Corax- So Veed is the new Imperial Regent… I can’t say that I’m surprised but I do approve of the move by Wyyrlok. I think we are about to see just how bad Wyyrlok can be.

X-Wingurly- Wyrrlock knows that the galaxy recognizes who Krayt was but does not know Wyrrlock. It is now an open secret that Krayt is “in stasis.” Wyrrlock is using Veed as a figurehead to implement his will, a request that Veed readily accepts. Of course, no one knows that Krayt is dead so this will be interesting to see if Veed stumbles upon the truth or not.

Corax- Indeed. Or if Nyna is able to find out the truth about Krayt by using Veed.

X-Wingurly- Nyna is cold enough to use Veed for that purpose. I love the intrigue she brings. My kind of woman ;)

Corax- All in all I thought this issue rocked and I can’t wait to see what happens next so stay tuned for issue 39 coming in August.
