Review of Star Wars Invasion #2

invasion2X-Wingurly and I sat down yesterday afternoon to discuss the latest exploits of the Galfridian family.  After the break you can read about our thoughts on the issue!!

Corax: First I want to say that I loved all the cameos of EU characters.  We had more Luke, Kyp, and the Solo Kids..

X- Wingurly: For anyone wanting to see the Solo kids, before life got in the way, this issue is for you. They are in top form here. Best part? Discovering Finn had a crush on Jaina and then Finn trying to warn Jacen off, not realizing he was her brother.

Corax: He didn’t even realize they were the Solo children until Jaina stated “Uncle Luke” and then the pieces fell together for him. Finn is becoming an interesting character.

X-Wingurly: His hate of the Yuuzhan Vong is predictable as well as the talk of Finn falling to the Darkside. What surprised me about Finn was at the end when he threw the rock at Luke’s feet and basically shoved Luke’s challenge in his face.

Corax: And Luke’s demonstration of powers reminds us why Luke is a badass Jedi.

X-Wingurly: And a bit of a jerk. But I love Luke as a jerk so it was okay. You know who also surprises me? Kaye, Finn’s sister. She may be young but she is tough as durasteel.

Corax: She is, and I’m left wondering if she will experience the Embrace of Pain in the series.

X-Wingurly: It alluded to it after the Yuuzhan Vong Commander stabbed her in the back. *shivers* Getting a picture of the Embrace of Pain will not be pretty but I expect no less from DH. The time of the YV invasion is one of the darkest and most gruesome.

Corax: Yes it is, I think that’s part of the allure ten years later.  This was the darkest vision of the Star Wars Universe and Colin Wilson is handling the Yuuzhan Vong very well.  I think one of the things that shocked me was Nina Galfridian’s admission that she used to be a slave. I feel as if her future is about to be one of slavery again.

X-Wingurly: Yeah one wouldn’t connect royalty and a slave past together. Nina, as well as her daughter and all the other hostages, do not have a bright future. They are being held on a slave ship so chances are that the will encounter hard labor or death are high.

Corax: One more reason for Finn to hate the Vong.

X-Wingurly: Going back to Finn, I have to emphasize how good it was to see Finn and the Solo Kids interact together. The artwork for Jaina was great but I didn’t like Jacen’s squnity eyed look in each panel.

Corax: I didn’t mind it too much. I was just excited to see them in a comic after all these years. The sparring match between Jaina and Finn was cool to see.

X-Wingurly: Finn did get his butt handed to him.

Corax: And we get Lowbacca!

X-Wingurly: Yes! We get Lowbacca!! It is great to see him in this format. And like most other people, I believe this is taking place during Agents of Chaos; therefore making the appearences plausible. We also get a new Jedi Master named Le’Ung. What was his species?

Corax: He’s the same as Tion Meddon from RotS.  A Pau’an.

X wingurly: A Pau’an? That’s that name of the species? Try saying that out loud ten times really fast.lol

Corax: I won’t even attempt. Not even sure if I am pronouncing it correctly in my head. lol

X-Wingurly: All in all this was a great 2nd issue. NJO is my favorite time period so it will be fun to revisit everything. Next issue Finn will be tested when Luke takes him on a mission.

Corax: Yes he will be and I look forward to it.
