Review of Star Wars Invasion #3

X-Wingurly and I got together again to review the latest issue of Ininvasion3dhvasion!!  After the break you can read our thoughts on the newest exploits of the Galfridian family!!  Be warned there are spoilers in the review!!

Corax: Invasion issue 3 is 22 action-packed pages!

X-wingurly: This is issue kept moving and wouldn’t let you go until the very end. It’s starts off with Luke and Master Le’ung arriving on Rychel with Finn.

Corax: The mission was for the Jedi to rescue the prisioners from the Vong and Finn’s first real test Luke puts him through. We get our first look at the Chanzrack and the Siege Beast.

X-wingurly: Speaking of first looks, the artwork is amazing in my opinion. While in the last issue I had some gripes about facial expressions, this issue captured the grittiness of the war. It was graphic enough for the readers to get a feel of the mass destruction the Vong wreak without being grotesque.

Corax: It definitely had a more realistic approach. After starting off with the Jedi mission, it jumps straight away to the prisioner ship where Kaye and her mother, along with countless others, are still being held.

X-Wingurly: Kayes’s mother goes into shock and is basically despondent due to all the traumatic events. It is here that Kaye runs into the last surviving member of a warrior race.

Corax: After a brief discussion, he and Kaye talk about planning a rebellion and for the warrior to have the Yuuzhan Vong Commander’s head on a plate.

X-Wingurly: The man is out for blood. And rightfully so. They have him sperated and chained up away from all the other prisioners.

Corax: Another person out for blood is Finn. Or at least that is what we originally are led to believe. Things did not go well for the Jedi.

X-wingurly: I will quickly add that Luke gets 2 pages showcasing how badass he is. I love it when Luke proves why he is the best.

Corax: Even Finn stopped for a second to take notice. The artwork was able to capture Luke letting loose with the Force.

X-wingurly: But even with Luke they are not able to save all the prisioners. We also see Master Le’ung get gutted by a Vong and then eaten by a siege monster. I think that was the only thing I was disappointed with as this random Jedi Master intrigued me. I didn’t think he would die so soon in the series.

Corax: It was surprising. I think what surprised me more was when Finn saved a Yuuzhan Vong after he was trapped underneath rubble. Finn raises his lightsaber  and cuts him free and says “Learn”.

X-wingurly: I also thought the Yuuzhan Vong would see it as an act of kindness and possibly have a change of heart; or at least question some things. What we get instead, and this makes more sense knowing what we do about the Yuuzhan Vong, is that he doesn’t understand the concept of mercy and proceeds to slaughter a group of remaining prisioners.

Corax: Again, it brings out how ruthless they are in war. It also gives us a glimpse at the Embrace of Pain.

X-wingurly: I had a feeling that thing would pop up in the series.

Corax: Dulac, Caled’s close friend and advisor, is being held prisioner in the Embrace.

X-wingurly: Which tells us that although we may not find out Caled’s fate for awhile, we know that Dulac will be sticking around and, as the issue said, with even worse things in store for him.

Corax: As the issue ends, we learn Finn’s secret: Luke notices that Finn has holes or “pieces” of himself missing.

X-wingurly: What exactly Luke meant I have no idea.

Corax: At this point I wouldn’t put it pass Tom Taylor to have it mean literally or figuratively.

X-wingurly: They would leave us hanging with Invasion taking a break!

Corax: There is a little scheduled break after the fifth issue but this series is proving to be well worth the wait. Stay tuned!
