Crazy title right?  Vergere died well over 100 years before the Legacy comics started.  We shouldn’t even have to discuss her anymore, but we will.  Her choices and actions are felt in an era that she has no control over.  In this installment of Filling in the Blanks I’m going to address how Vergere’s actions are guiding a lot of the things going on in the Legacy comics.

It’s crazy how much one little retcon can change so much.  Is Vergere Sith? Jedi?  Somewhere in between?  It’s hard to tell and she sure wasn’t very forthcoming with anyone, unless it suited her.  But if we take what she told A’Sharad Hett in Legacy seriously then it seems she was a Sith.

Taking full advantage of Vergere’s advice to accept his pain and allow it to feed his dark anger, A’ Sharad Hett reshaped himslef into Darth Krayt onboard the Yuuzhan Vong vessel.  It was here that Krayt had his first vision of the One Sith. 

Krayt would follow his own path and Vergere claimed they couldn’t follow each other if they each had their own goals.  Vergere’s actions with Hett, directly or indirectly led to the creation of the One Sith. A New Sith Order that has devastated the galaxy through deception and subterfuge.

As we all know Vergere would later cross paths with young Jacen Solo during the New Jedi Order.  Vergere’s teachings would lead Jacen to effectively stop the Yuuzhan Vong War and save the Yuuzhan Vong as a species.  Jacen would later become Darth Caedus and successfully divert the attention of the Jedi away from Krayt’s One Sith.

The One Sith would end up using sabotage on the Jedi-led Ossus Project in the Legacy comics. A project the Jedi hoped would help the Yuuzhan Vong be accepted in the galaxy.  In the end it led to an all out war and the Sith joined forces with the Imperials.  That collaboration has led to the current situation within Legacy.  The Sith-Imperials control the galaxy while the Galactic Aliiance Remnant tries to hold on to a fragile alliance with Fel’s Imperial forces and the Jedi have finally begun their return into the war.  All this destruction because Jacen and the Jedi of both eras showed compassion to the Yuuzhan Vong.

So all of this could be traced back to that fateful day when a young Vergere met the Yuuzhan Vong on Zenoma Sekot.  Whether she was on the run from a failed attempt on Darth Sidious’ life or a curious Jedi Knight doesn’t really matter anymore.  One could argue that Vergere was training Jacen to bring down Darth Krayt.  It could also be argued that every choice she made was to further her own dark agenda.  Vergere’s actions and teachings have led the galaxy to where it is now.  Whether it was her influence on young Jacen Solo or her contact and discussions with the soon to be Darth Krayt, Vergere was there for most big turning points in the New Jedi Order and the One Sith.  All except one, Vergere wasn’t there the day the dreamer died.
