REVIEW: Legacy #44 Monster part 2

After a delay on my end due to the weather, X-Wingurly and I were finallylegacy-441 able to sit down and discuss the newest issue.  After the break you can read our thoughts on the latest exploits of Cade and company.

Corax: To start off…wow.  This whole issue read and played out like a movie. So many plot lines and threads to follow but everything just meshed together so well.
X-Wingurly: This issue read like a middle filler for the arc but as Corax said, it had many plot threads and was indeed very informative.
Corax: We open the comic with a shot of the Yuuzhan Vong Zenoc Quah, who has manipulated the Sith sabotage of Wayland even farther. Quite the freaky character. Now I love seeing the Jedi and Vong working together but Quah definitely fits the bill as the quintessential Yuuzhan Vong from the NJO era.
X-Wingurly: From the beginning I assumed that it was just Sith alchemy wreaking havoc on Kol Skywalker’s project but it was interesting that an actual Yuuzhan Vong was working with the Sith. Makes one wonder if there are more Vong floating around still holding a grudge.
Corax: I am sure Cade and Co. will eventually run into Quah. But I think the best part about the whole Wayland panels was seeing  Cade in action but never going “Sith”. They get ambushed by Vonspawn creatures and his friends are captured but his eyes never change.
X-Wingurly: Cade for once was guided by his head instead of his emotions and enlisted a beast-like bird to help him find Blue and Jariah. He didn’t force the creature but he used his natural force abilities. It is nice to finally, finally! see Cade get his act together…somewhat.lol
Corax: I agree. And its a good thing because you cannot count Blue and Jariah out just yet. While Jariah is searching for Cade and Blue, he runs into a badass Jedi descendant whose parents were stationed on Zonoma Sekot.
X-Wingurly: It’s good to see that there are actually children of Jedi who do not posess force abilities yet still have many talents. You hear about them but there are rarely characters who are like Fionah Ti. Fionah has been trying to undo the damage of the Vongspawn creatures but knows someone is out there mutating them and creating monsters.
Corax: Jariah then comes across an amphistaff, Heartstriker, that he tames by using the techniques he learned from Chonyo, a Yuuzhan Vong working with Rav’s crew.
X-Wingurly: Jariah’s development is more subtle since we only get tidbits about him in each issue but he is probably one of the more interesting characters since he has an onion type personality. From here we spend a little time with Skull Squadron.
Corax: But one cannot think of Skull Squadron and wonder if Moff Yage is in over his head on this one. With Sith help, Moff Yage prepared a strike force operation to take down Fel. An operation that includes Skull Squadron.
X-Wingurly: Skull Squadron wonders if the Sith can even be trusted and Moff Yage also expresses regret about the whole situation. I get the impression that Moff Yage is generally a good person but is still Imperial enough to follow orders even if his conscious tells him otherwise.
Corax: But unlike Moff Yage, Nyna Calixte has no qualms about protecting her own hide or doing what she feels needs to be done.
X-Wingurly: And we learn that Nyna Calixte is indeed the made up alias Morrigan Corde implemented.  Seems she created the Calixte persona right after she left Kol. There is a nice, and even touching, flashback scene, picking up where Nyna rescued Cade and Kol after the Wayland project went sour.
Corax: You can tell that even though Nyna has made some iffy choices, Kol definitely still loves her. I think it will eventually come down to her having to choose between which persona she wants to be. As it is, she is on her way to warn Fel of the ensuing operation to catch him and Marasiah.
X-Wingurly: There seems to have always been a fight within her to protect herself versus doing what is right. The issue then gives us some great insight that has been lacking from Fel. He and Tres Sinde are getting in some sparring practice where Fel finally admits the last seven years have been “corrosive” on Fel.
Corax: Sinde reiterates that if Fel were to go to the darkside, he would have to be destroyed. Fel seems to think that using any means to defeat the Sith are justifiable but Sinde tells him he would just become another Krayt.
X-Wingurly: I like that Fel admitted his weakness. Admitting a weakness means you know there is a problem. Hopefully we can now see some progress back in the right direction for him and put to rest that the IK are bad folk.
Corax: Whatever the outcome, Fel is in for a fight, same with Cade. As always, a great issue and can’t wait to see what happens next :)
