Review- Legacy #47

The first of the final four issues of Legacy came out on Wednesday and X-Wingurly and I sat down to discuss the newest issue. Find out what we thought about the changes that just happened in the Legacy Era.
Corax: This issue was a venerable who’s who of Legacy characters. Bantha? Check. Darth Stryfe? Check. The Grinning Liar? Check. It was awesome to see all of those characters again in some fashion but I wonder if it would have been as noticeable if we didn’t know the series was coming to a close?
X-Wingurly: I was also surprised to see some cameos although the cameos didn’t necessarily feel out of place. While there is obviously more to come, reading this issue, you cannot help but feel a sense of things winding down for Legacy. Add that to the fact that this issue was more or less the demise of the planet Dac and you don’t put it down feeling all warm and fuzzy inside.
Corax: It started off with the preview that Dark Horse posted and then it moves into Veed talking with Wyyrlok. Veed is upset that Wyyrlok ordered the death of the population of Dac (not just the Mon Cals) because he has Quarren staff and he doesn’t want to be the face of the destruction.
X-Wingurly: Veed’s arrogance was taken down a couple notches when he knew things were never, ever going to go his way. And it showed Wyyrlock’s ruthless logic.
Corax: It’s nice to see that Calixte’s warning to him came true. He is the face of the Sith Empire no matter what they do. After their altercation, we are taken to Dac where we see Stazi arguing with General Jaeger about helping the evacuation of the planet.
X-Wingurly: Throughout the series we know that Stazi is not only brilliant but driven by justice. Here we see his compassion come out in full force. He is willing to possibly sacrifice his entire fleet to help save those on Dac. He knows he is most likely walking into a trap but takes the risks anyway; even without the help of General Jaeger.
Corax: Jaeger can’t act without orders from Emperor Fel so Stazi starts the battle on his own to protect Dac. With the help of some familiar faces the GA Remnant moves in to save the population.
X-Wingurly: I want to emphasize that at least for me, this issue was moving and very well done if a bit short. By simply drawing the faces of those left behind and those already dead, you see the genocide up close and personal without over doing it. It really is sad when you consider the history of Dac, and especially the Mon Cals themselves, that they are added to the list of species now on the endangered list.
Corax: By the end of the issue the GA/Imperial forces and their comrades could only save 20% of the population. Not very many but a small victory nonetheless against the Sith-Imperial forces that were targeting the evac ships thanks to Stryfe’s not so brilliant strategy. One thing that I found very interesting was how inept Darth Stryfe ended up looking in all of this.
X-Wingurly: Stryfe has a temper but I think his emotions were playing him rather than his lack of brains. While he does fly off the handle in an annoying fashion, I didn’t see him as stupid but rather someone who desperately wanted to carry out his Master’s orders no matter the cost. In this case he still thinks his Master is Krayt. This reasoning did not hold well with Moff Geist who did show some foresight to the situation.
Corax: Moff Geist was clearly correct that their main concern should have been taking out Stazi but because Wyyrlok said that Krayt ordered the death of Dac, that took precedent.
X-Wingurly: Much to Geist’s, and eventually, Darth Stryfe’s dismay. While the Sith-Imperial forces were not completely outmatched by Stazi and the GA, when General Jaeger arrived, with compliments from Fel, the Sith-Imperials had no choice but to flee.
Corax: Very surprising the way that played out when the Fel Empire showed up to help Stazi.
X-Wingurly: A surprise that has reinforced my belief that Fel’s empire is not bad, just different. It is possible to operate in the Gray and still be good. I can hear all the dissenters to that logic as we speak.
Corax: But whether people like them or not, the simple fact is that Fel and his people are needed if the GA and Jedi ever want to truly overthrow the Sith.
X-Wingurly: Speaking of the Sith again, I enjoyed the ending and enjoyed even more the last shot we see of Wyyrlock.
Corax: The end of the issue is absolutely classic. Darth Nihl reports in to Wyyrlok, from Korriban, to let him know that Darth Krayt is missing! If you’ve ever wondered what it looks like when a Sith soils his robes then this is the issue for you.
X-Wingurly: This issue has solidified my respect for Stazi and makes me wonder how he and the others are going to approach the endgame with the Sith. Not too mention how Wyyrlock is going to fare in all this.
Corax: It told the story it needed to but seeing more of the rescue operations would have been an added bonus. All in all though a good setting for what is to come in the final three issues of Legacy.
