In Case You Missed It - Week of 5/17/10 to 5/23/10

1c1154dbf8661Sometimes a whole bunch of news comes out during the course of a given week that articles just don’t last long enough on our front page. Or perhaps it’s just that the piece of news wasn’t enough to warrant a front page story, but is still deserving of being recognized as newsworthy. In Case You Missed It is meant to be our catch-all for those things – a way for us to summarize the past week’s worth of news.

This past week saw the anniversary of the release of The Empire Strikes Back in theaters 30 years ago. One of the best tributes I’ve seen was posted at I09. Over at the official Star Wars site, they had a preview of the upcoming The Making of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back with some early logos for the film and an excerpt from the book.

The Force Unleashed II had two bits of news pop up this past week, from the appearance of Kamino to an interview with executive producer and writer for the game, Haden Blackman.

On The Old Republic front, the planet Hoth has appeared on the game’s webpage, and the 3rd webcomic of Blood of the Empire has appeared online as well. There was also an interview/story with the creators of the original TOR comic Threat of Peace at Comic Book Resources.

Max Jaybo posted some updates to the release dates for upcoming books, though as always the further out those dates are the more subject to change they are. Some of the changes include:

Red Harvest by Joe Schreiber - Jan 25th, 2011
Knight Errant by John Jackson Miller - Feb 22nd, 2011
hero-of-confederacy1Holostar (working title) by Michael Reaves and Maya Kaathryn Bohnoff - April 26th, 2011
Untitled Nomi Sunrider novel by Alex Irvine - May 24th, 2011
Crosscurrent sequel by Paul Kemp - June 28th, 2011
Fate of the Jedi 8 by Christie Golden - July 26, 2011
Choices (working title) by Timothy Zahn - Aug 30th, 2011

A cover for The Clone Wars: Hero of the Confederacy Digest was found on Amazon.

16989The final version of the cover for Legacy #48: Extremes part 1 (the final arc of Legacy, which is ending with issue #50) showed up online as well as the final version of the cover for Invasion: Rescues #1.

On Tom Taylor’s website, you can see a behind the scenes video on the creation of the cover for Bloodties: A Tale of Jango and Boba Fett #1 coming August 25th.

Another tidbit - Alex Irvine tweets: And lo, I have unpacked my Star Wars reference materials again. Vima’s going to surprise some people.

Around NJOE.com:

image001On the cosmic comic book front, the August solicitations for Marvel and DC were announced, covering everything from Fantastic Four and Avengers, to Green Lantern and Superman. And if you’d like to see the latest reviews of various cosmic comics you should check out Cosmic Quick Takes from two weeks ago (covering Witchblade, Star Trek, and the Marvel event Siege books) and last week (covering the Avengers #1), as well as their review of Farscape: Scorpious #1 (and preview) as well as a reveiw of the ongoing Farscape series #7 (preview here), their review of War of the Supermen #3 (and there are previews of issues 1 and 2). For those Blade Runner fans, there’s a preview of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Dust to Dust #1, a preview of the DC event Brightest Day #2, and a review of the new Legion of Superheroes #1 here. And if like me, you’re excited about the upcomig Secret Avengers title, cosmicbooknews has now done mini bios for Black Widow, Moonknight, and War Machine. And hey, if you like Doctor Who, they have a bi-weekly column reviewing episodes from the new series as well.
