In Case You Missed It - Week of 7/6/2010 to 7/12/2010

soswSometimes a whole bunch of news comes out during the course of a given week that articles just don’t last long enough on our front page. Or perhaps it’s just that the piece of news wasn’t enough to warrant a front page story, but is still deserving of being recognized as newsworthy. In Case You Missed It is meant to be our catch-all for those things – a way for us to summarize the past week’s worth of news.

This week Max Jaybo let us know about a bunch of date changes for upcoming novels Red Harvest (Dec 28), Knight Errant (Jan 25), Deceived (March 22), and The Star Wars Craft Book (March 29), so adjust your calendar (and expectations) accordingly. The official site gives a first look at The Sounds of Star Wars coming out Oct 1 (and they offer a way to get it at 25% off with free shipping). On the kids books front, both our site and TFN found some new titles (different from each other, so check both links) as wel as the blurb from R2 to the Rescue. And TFN also provided some news that signed copies of The Art of Ralph McQuarrie will be available at Celebration V.

esbSpeaking of CV, there’s a story at the official site about the development of the official poster for the event (to the right). SirStevesGuide offers another chance to win tickets to CV here, and we now know that Warwick Davis  as well as some other guests will be signing autographs. If you’re looking to get a feel for what to expect at CV, Attractions Magazine has a nice summary and Steve Sansweet gave a CV news update (via Rebelscum). Rebelscum also got news of the artist who’ll be doing the badges for the event, and new promo art has gone up at the official site (especially fun for Jar Jar haters), along with a list of some more artists who will be at CV. The commemorative guide and T-shirts are now available for pre-order as well. The official site talks about the Final Flights to Endor (now including information on the California closing of Star Tours), which you can participate in while at CV.

There’s a new promo video for CV which inclues new footage of The Clone Wars Season 3 as well. It was also announced that The Clone Wars has won the TV.com NOW award for best animated show. Some other random notes; SirStevesGuide has a contest to win an Anakin as Clone Commander statue, Hallmark has revealed their 2010 Star Wars ornaments, the official site has a story about Mondo’s Star Wars art, Paul Kemp will be guest of honor at U-Con (in Ann Arbor, MI, Nov. 12-14), and news about a UK Star Wars summer madness event.

swlegacy50pg1With all the talk about the almost upon us San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) I’m going to end this week’s update with a bunch of Star Wars comic news, followed by SDCC event news that might be of interest to Star Wars fans, as well as some general comic news that might be of interest. This past week, MTV got an exclusive first look at the covers of the first issue of the new Dark Horse Star Wars series Knight Errant, as well as an interview with John Jackson Miller (writer of the comic). Dark Horse showed  a preview page of Legacy #50 as well as talked about John and Jan’s work and why this issue is an even greater milestone for them. This August Dark Horse will be offering #1 issues of various comics for $1, including Legacy #1 among others.

The schedule for SDCC has been released for Thurs, Fri, Sat, and Sun, as well as the full list of exhibitors, and you can create your own personalized schedule here. If you want the full list of Star Wars panels, the official site does a run-down here. As far as stuff you can pick up at SDCC, there’s the Special Edition of Star Wars Insider, a Lobot themed USB harddrive, and DK announced via Twitter that DK they’re giving dracaway exclusive Star Wars prints to the first 200 ppl to visit their booth 2913G. EOS books will be giving out a sampler of upcoming books at SDCC, Radical comics revealed their SDCC plans, and Dan Abnett (of Marvel cosmic comics and Warhammer 40K fame) will be talking about Ultramarines at SDCC as well.

In general comic news, Cosmicbooknews has both their look back at the past week of scifi oriented comics as well as previews of all the Marvel titles coming up this week, including Thanos Imperative #2, Fantastic Four #581, and Secret Avengers #2. For fans of fantasy; there’s a first look at Thor #612 as well as news of a new epic fantasy miniseries starring that character, a teaser for the X-Men/vampires event as well as a review of the lead in The Death of Dracula, and the regular artist on Wonder Woman talks about the new costume revealed last week for the Greek Goddess.  And for Doctor Who fans, BBC revealed they’re doing their first graphic novel featuring the 11th Doctor.
