A hero corrupted by the power he relies upon to defeat the enemies of his people, driven by the deaths of the ones he loves family, he will fall even further so long as his descent means no one else will have to suffer. Sound a little like Anakin Skywalker? There are a number of similarities between him and Aenarion, elf warrior of the Warhammer fantasy fiction line.

Tatooine is probably one of the most iconic locations in all of Star Wars. Just reading the name likely reminds people of the opening of A New Hope, with its two setting suns. It’s a location full of turning points for the Skywalker family – where Anakin stopped being a slave and Luke began his path towards his destiny. Perhaps it will serve the same purpose for Cade Skywalker as well.

This week my sons and I will give you a look at Death Star Battles, another DK Readers level 3 book – meant for children who are reading alone. As mentioned last time, this book was a much bigger hit with my sons than Join the Rebels had been, and after the break I’ll give you my best analysis as to why that was.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…

I started reading these books. The Star Wars Expanded Universe has gone through numerous upheavals since the its inception in 1978. None of these were more seemingly important at the time while becoming nearly irrelevant years later than the 20th Star Wars Anniversary spectacular event, Shadows of the Empire. This Multimedia Event, designed as a one-stop bridge from the closing sequence of Empire Strikes Back to the opening scenes of Return of the Jedi, introduced us to a crime organization more extensive and more glamorous than Jabba’s, Black Sun, and its memorable leader Prince Xizor in Steve Perry’s novel. Yet all in all it has fallen out of Star Wars discussion. Does Shadows deserve this fate?
