They embrace pain. Mutilating themselves severely in service to their gods, they believe that the only constant in life is death. Death and pain is what their society revolves around. Utterly rejecting technology, they instead use queer, brutalistic organic monstrosities, capable of subjugating entire star systems for them.
After centuries of internal tribal war, they united with a common goal: conquest. Soon with their organic servants, they dominated their entire galaxy. But that was not enough.
Their gods told them 'our' galaxy was impure, and needed to be purged, so they obeyed. Traversing the almost infinite distance between galaxies, their single-minded objective was to annihilate all life in our galaxy that would resist them.
They are the Yuuzhan Vong...
Arriving in our galaxy with only a skeleton probe force, they waited in the Outer Rim. They witnessed the final months of the Old Republic as Palpatine took hold, and killed the last of all who would oppose his rule. The Yuuzhan Vong abducted many in those tumultuous years: a few Humans, Bothans, Fosh and Rodians, among others. But barely anyone noticed with Palpatine and his New Order swallowing star systems by the day. With the galaxy's denizens either resisting Palpatine or bowing to his will, the Yuuzhan Vong decided to make a move.
With our galaxy engulfed in it's own civil war they approached the unaligned world of Zonama Sekot. The Sekotans had never before seen anything like the destructive force of the extragalactic invaders. In hours, their southern hemisphere was in tatters.
In the final hours of the battle for Zonama Sekot, a Jedi Knight named Vergere arrived. She saw the Yuuzhan Vong attacking the world, and decided to offer herself to them if they would stop attacking the peaceful planet. They took her, but still hammered the planet. The mysterious thing was, Vergere could not sense them through the Force...
But the Sekotans had one card up their sleeve: their own form of organic weaponry. They beat off the Yuuzhan Vong, and seemingly disappeared from the galaxy, warning no one else of the coming plague.
After this minor setback, the Yuuzhan Vong perfected their technology. But it was time to return to their own galaxy to warn the rest of their kin of what they faced. Leaving certain key operatives here, the main probe force left, awaiting the day when the real invasion could begin...
The Vong left behind were to sow confusion and develop hatred among many planets' native populations, so that when the invasion began people would not have faith in their leaders. The Vong agents left in our galaxy had to swallow their intense hatred of technology so they would not be discovered. These same operatives witnessed many key events in 'our' galaxy's history. Palpatine demolished the Old Republic.
Declaring himself Emperor, Palpatine ordered the deaths of Jedi galaxy-wide. His henchman, Darth Vader accomplished this nicely, obliterating any and all who would oppose his master's rule. Not only the Jedi were killed off, though.
After the Great Purge, Palpatine also decided to get rid of certain planets that spread cries of rebellion. Caamas was one of the first to go. The pacifist planet was destroyed by aerial bombardment, it's race scattered across the galaxy. The Yuuzhan Vong watched, and waited. The Cammasi, and many others in light of this atrocity now saw that they could not live in such an uncaring universe. So begun the Alliance to restore the Republic, or more commonly known as the Rebel Alliance. The Rebellion's war against the Empire was long and full of tragedy.
It had gone on for years before the Emperor had his scientists build a weapon that would stop the Rebellion in it's tracks: the Death Star. With enough power to destroy a planet, Palpatine targeted the world of Alderaan, whose people had been crucial to the Rebellion's efforts. Alderaan was destroyed, it's death spurring the Rebellion on to more drastic measures. The Death Star was eventually destroyed by a young Tatooine teen by the name of Luke Skywalker. Chased by a dark past, Luke joined the Rebellion, gaining hero status in the eyes of many.
The Yuuzhan Vong watched the Galactic Civil War with great interest. It both amused and befuddled them that the species of a galaxy could not live in together as one. The main Yuuzhan Vong invasion force had still not arrived as the Civil War ended over Endor, bringing a new era of peace to the galaxy.
The aliens watched as the Rebel Alliance became the New Republic, as Luke Skywalker founded a new order of Jedi, and as it was discovered that Leia Organa was indeed Skywalker's twin sister. The New Republic soon became a star-spanning confederation, with only petty warlords from the remnants of the Empire to contend with. After Isard, Zsinj and Thrawn the Yuuzhan Vong decided to begin their operation.
They struck just after the chaos that had been Palpatine's resurrection. Nom Anor, a Vong operative began posing as a human. He became involved in the remains of the Imperial Council, and severely disabled their ability to rule properly. Following the downfall of the Imperials, Anor went into hiding, watching Daala's multiple incursions into New Republic space, the death of Carida, the Corellian Insurrection, and other things.
At this time, the New Republic, under the leadership of Leia Organa Solo, was flourishing, and the government seemed invulnerable to any outside force.
Then came the discovery that the people involved in the death of Caamas Were Bothans. Bothans had always been key figures in both the Alliance and the Republic.
The Caamas issue seemed to be the end of the Republic with many races in the government bringing up old grudges against one another. Luke Skywalker set off with his one-time enemy, Mara Jade to try and find a copy of the legendary Caamas Document, which would finally bring the murderers to light. Their search led them to the border of the Unknown Regions, and while they began a search for the Document, they discovered their true feelings for one another...
Meanwhile, an Imperial Moff and his "aide" had also made a shocking discovery. They had found a man that could believingly pass as the legendary Grand Admiral Thrawn. Setting their plan in motion, they showed this man to key Imperial leaders, and this rallied the decaying remains of the Empire behind them.
But the true Imperial leader, Gilad Pellaeon had tired of the decades long war, and eventually unmasked the fake Thrawn. Proposing a peace treaty to Leia, the war had finally ended!
It was then that Luke and Mara returned, engaged, with a copy of the Caamas Document. The guilty Bothans were arrested, and thrown in jail for their crimes, and peace could at last reign.
Leia Organa then stepped down from leadership of the Republic, and the power-hungry Bothan, Borsk Fey'lya ascended to power. The Imperial Remnant was content to rule their own small pocket of the Outer Rim, and Luke and Mara were wed.
Nom Anor, knowing that his people would soon arrive, went to the world of Monor II, where a diplomatic function was taking place. With interspecies rivalries still rampant from the Caamas issue, he gave out a lot of hyperbole, and then seemingly disappeared for a while.
But he had also released a Yuuzhan Vong created virus at the function, infecting one hundred people with it. One of the victims was Mara Jade Skywalker, now the wife of the Jedi Master. Symptoms did not show up in the victims until weeks later, when nobody could have connected the virus to Anor.
Yet again, Anor reared his ugly head, this time on the New Republic world of Rhommamool. The planet's population were jealous of their sister world, Osarian. Osarian had been reaping the benefits from Rhommamool's mines, leaving the Rhommamoolians poor and angry. So Anor stirred up this rivalry, eventually beginning a war between the planets.
Leia was sent as an ambassador to mediate the conflict. She brought Mara along, with her daughter, Jaina. The curious thing was that Anor could not be sensed through the Force...
He rejected Leia's attempts at diplomacy, and made her shuttle fly out over a pit he had created. In the pit was most of Rhommamool's droids, all burning...
Then, from the edge of the galaxy, they arrived. The Yuuzhan Vong. The invasion had begun... |
