In the beginning…
Oops wait, wrong book
A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away…

Ah, the sound familiar to all geeks and nerds, and even just the curious bystander. Just about every one knows the Star Wars label, and has possibly seen a few of the movies. But once we get past the movies and into the expanded universe (EU) we can sometimes get a little lost. Thanks to NJOE member Sithjammies, we now have a brief overview of Star Wars from pretty much the beginning to 21 ABY (After the Battle of Yavin).

2009 was a year of change. Or, change. In fact, it was also a year of change.
You get the drift.
The Lord Darth Iurus, both as an individual and as a member of NJOE’s brand new, reinvented-in-2009 News Team, has also experienced a great deal of change. I had never written a (formal) novel review before last year, after all.
Read past the break for a chance to experience any of my contributions (or simply those that helped out some of my projects) that you might have missed in 2009.

Just a reminder to anyone who is interested in reading along with the NJOE book club, that the book for January is Michael A. Stackpole’s X-wing: Rogue Squadron.
The discussion is scheduled to begin on the 15th of the month. Feel free to post any discussion questions you want discussed in the book club thread.

Here I am back again with another father/son review of a DK Readers book – this time the level 2 Star Wars The Clone Wars: Jedi In Training. Level 2 is for someone just beginning to read, with simple sentences and limited vocabulary. This 30 page book was is a well thought out example of the perfect way to inject something new into the Readers series while still being faithful to the source material – and I’ll tell you why after the break.

Let’s cut to the chase, shall we? Star Wars Tales volume 3 is fantastic. Of the three volumes I’ve reviewed so far, it is far and away the best – well worth a look by any Star Wars fan. This TPB collects issues 9-12 of the comic series of the same name, and these issues must have been around the time of Attack of the Clones since there are a few cross references to that film. If you want a detailed summary and review of the individual stories within this volume, click on the link and I’ll give you all the sordid details.

Randy Stradley has announced on the Dark Horse message boards that the monthly comic series, The Clone Wars, will be ending with issue #12. The reason for this is that DH has been unable to find a market for the comics; definitely unfortunate for readers of the series. However, the Clone Wars digests will continue.

Coruscant Nights III: Patterns of Force by Michael Reaves
Wow, and I really do mean wow but not for reasons you may think. I finally get to the third and final book in this series and I am amazed. I want to like this book, I really do. Really, really do.
But with this I can understand why it was so hard to track down.
The story continues with Pavan on Coruscant aiding the now ingrained Whiplash movement. For those of you who have not read the series, this is what I assume was written (there was serious implying in the book but nothing for sure) to be the seed group for the Rebellion. This was alright, nothing that got me going either good or bad but then I kept reading.

No one needs to be told how vast the Star Wars galaxy has run. Spanning seven movies, multiple TV shows (okay we’d be hard-pressed to classify the Holiday Special as TV too), and some three thousand years worth of lore, Star Wars fandom has quite a bit of material to follow. In addition, many communities have developed sites or situations in which the fans can modify or create canon of their own within the Star Wars Universe. This column will be devoted to spot-lighting those sites which we believe might be of interest to others within the community, as well as providing news and reviews of other aspects of roleplaying (like books and costuming). For the second column, we discuss the never before explored era of Crescendo…
